Information

Cheddar Reservoir is a man-made reservoir in Somerset. It is a mixed fishery known for its large Pike, Tench, Roach, Perch and Eels.

It is approximately 260 acres, with two car parks at each entrance to the reservoir. The first is on the Axbridge side (BS26 2DL), and the second is accessible from Cheddar (BS27 3DR).

Season tickets are also available and are valid for 12 months from the purchase date. Unlimited fishing for 12 months when upgrading to a season ticket.

Rules

  • All anglers must be in possession of a valid EA Rod Licence. Fishing must be by fair rod and line only.
  • Fishing is from Dawn to Dusk (STRICTLY NO NIGHT FISHING).
  • Permits are not transferable and must be obtained before an angler enters the reservoir enclosure with fishing tackle.
  • All fish must be returned to the water. No fish are to be killed.
  • A maximum of three rods per senior angler and one rod per junior angler may be used.
  • Each rod must be licensed and attended at all times.
  • Three are allowed for pike fishing only from the 01st October to 31st March inclusive.
  • Dead baiting is allowed from the 01st October to 30th April inclusive.
  • NO LIVE BAITING PERMITTED AT ANY TIME.
  • Wire traces must be used when Pike fishing.
  • Micro barb or barbless hooks to be used.
  • Unhooking mats must be used at all times for Pike and Tench fishing. Landing nets must be over 40 inches in size for Pike fishing.
  • Fishing is not permitted in the vicinity of Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club, on or near the valve towers, or between the yacht club and the cheddar tower.
  • Dog are only allowed on the perimeter track (on a lead if sheep are present).
  • All litter must be taken away (hooks, fishing line and weights must not be discarded).
  • Standing or wading in the water is prohibited. Fishing must be from the bank shelving only.
  • Anglers are warned that the sloping banks are dangerous and anglers fish at their own risk.
  • Pike matches take place on the reservoir – the section to be fished will be closed off 24 hours in advance.
  • No liability shall be incurred by Cheddar Angling Club in respect of persons fishing the reservoir. All anglers are personally responsible for any damage done.
