Information

This lake is the original lake with two islands and a weed bottom.

There are 10 pegs and a good assortment of Common Carp, Mirror Carp, Specimen Ghost Carp and Ten Japanese Jumbo Koi. The latest addition to this Lake is a handful of specialist WELS Catfish. This Lake is a well known lake due to the ‘Original’ Carp being almost Black in colour.

Directions and Access

We are in a convenient location at the edge of the Forest of Dean. We are on the A4151 – just off the A48 Gloucester to Chepstow trunk road.
The M5 (Junction 11 is 15 miles away), M50 and M4 are all within easy driving distance.

Rules

  1. All Anglers must hold a valid EA rod licence
    If you cannot produce evidence of this then you will be asked to leave
  2. Protect The Fish
  3. Carp/Cat care kit is compulsory
  4. Maximum hook size 8 Micro-barbed for Carp rigs. Maximum hook size 4 micro-barbed on Cat rigs. Cat rigs must be free running only!
  5. No treble hooks or spinning allowed
  6. No live or dead baiting
  7. Minimum 15lb mainline whilst fishing on the bottom of water. lower lb mainline acceptable for float fishing and where targeting smaller species
  8. No fixed weight rigs – Safety clips or free running rigs only
  9. Large Carp Matt or Cradle compulsory
  10. Forceps or hook degorger compulsory
  11. 42″ Landing net minimum on Horseshoe Lake and 50″ recommended landing net on
  12. Barn Lake although 42″ minimum
  13. No keep nets permitted – only exception during matches or where authorised. Holding slings permitted for short time
  14. All fish to be returned promptly and safely unless retained due to injury. Inform Fishery Staff if this is the case
  15. Do not lift Cats by bottom jaw without supporting their body weight
  16. No Tiger Nuts to be used
  17. Bread via hook bait only
  18. No excessive baiting or dumping of leftover bait in water
  19. Under no circumstance introduce any fish from anywhere other than the lake in which you are fishing
  20. If you suspect or witness any wrongdoing or suspicious behaviour – inform Fishery Staff immediately. We have a zero tolerance policy for any mistreatment of fish
  21. IF NIGHT FISHING – Ensure that all equipment etc is to hand before dark. Proficient lighting is essential or you will be sent home. If you cannot see fully then you can cause damage to our fish
  22. Look after the environment and yourselves
  23. Ensure that ALL litter is disposed of either in a bin provided or taken home
  24. Ensure no litter blows into the water, if so promptly retrieve it safely
  25. If you smoke take away all cigarette ends with you
  26. Do not enter the water even if wearing waders
  27. Beware of floating Aeration platforms – keep lines clear as they will turn on incrementally
  28. Do not interfere with any fishery or agricultural equipment around the Fishery
  29. If you lose any equipment in the water please inform Fishery Staff
  30. Maximum of 3 rods per any Angler at all times
  31. Only surface fish if Wild-Fowl are not present
  32. Do not feed the animals
  33. No open fires or BBQ’s – Gas burners only please
  34. Max 3kg Ground-Bait over 24hr period
  35. Disability priority pegs are provided on both lakes. Please do not use if needed by others
  36. Keep noise to a minimum as to not distract other Anglers
  37. Radios are permitted at a low volume
  38. No antisocial behaviour. You will be asked to leave and repeat offenders banned
  39. We reserve the right to inspect any fishing tackle you have at any time
  40. First Aid kit(s) provided at signed areas
  41. In the event of a medical emergency please inform Fishery Staff after you have called the Emergency Services
